BiDil is a fixed dose combination of Hydralazine and Isosorbide Dinitrate used for treatment of congestive heart failure. It works by relaxing the blood vessels so that blood can flow more easily through the body. It is more effective in African Americans especially when used in combination with nitrate drugs.1 Hydralazine is also the first-line therapy for hypertension in pregnancy and has been used as a treatment for myelodysplastic syndrome. Isosorbide dinitrate is used for angina, congestive heart failure, and for esophageal spasms.
The A-HeFT study (African American Heart Failure Trial)1 partly evaluated the relationship between the GNB3 gene C825T polymorphism and the effectiveness of a fixed-dose combination of isosorbide dinitrate and hydralazine
